Herman Van Rompuy - Master of haiku and Orwellian doublespeak

Herman's most memorable haiku so far: "The night has fallen/The bare branches can be seen/Even more lonely”.  (November 2012)

Herman Van Rompuy, master of haiku - and Orwellian doublespeak - is again in the news

European Union President Herman Van Rompuy said the euro is out of danger and called the 27-nation EU “still sexy” as policy makers negotiated the final touches of a bailout package for Cyprus.
Yes, indeed, the EU is "still sexy", if by sexiness we mean Nigel Farage's description of Van Rompuy himself: has the "charisma of a damp rag" and the appearance of a "low-grade bank clerk."
And the euro is "out of danger", if by that we mean "Not a single problem in the currency zone has been definitively resolved" (Der Spiegel's recent description).
